If an evaluation process is implemented effectively, I believe course evaluations are extremely useful. They are useful because evaluations provide insight and guidance for the institution and the professor so that they revise a wide range of processes and content such as course curriculum, teaching strategy, and assignments.
In my opinion, the most effective evaluation process has a balance between weighted questions as well as the open-ended comments. This type of survey allows for consistent structure to the feedback, as well as offering diversity in the type of recommendations. The questions on the survey should be evaluated each year and that if there is ambiguous or misleading data from the questions, the survey must be revised. I also believe that the evaluations should be submitted anonymously by the students and entered through an online system.
